HKU Smart Swim project - Swimmer Performance Analysis System
It deployed the latest artificial intelligence technology for swimmers and coach to use the cameras installed in the swimming pool to record and analysis their performance. Swimmers first record their I D, then different camera could record the jump start, acceleration and swimming actions. The jump parameters such as start angle, distance speed and the angle of insertion into water could be measured and provide objective data for coach and swimmers to evaluate.
During swimming, artificial intelligence technology could identify the key points like head, shoulder, arm, hip, leg, foot and calculate the stroke frequency and arm span length. Energy output and efficiency can be determined. Swimmer could go to the kiosk and access the performance data on the touch screen. The system could analyses individual performance from jump start to the end by a series of cameras along the lane so that the coach can point out the issues and give improvement suggestions more effectively. In addition, the system also supports group training analysis. Multiple swimmers can train their leg or arm stroke under the cameras and the system could analyze their performance collectively. This solution makes swimming training more interesting and effective.
